Historic temples in Prayagraj near completion for Mahakumbh 2025.

As Mahakumbh 2025 approaches, the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh is focusing heavily on restoring the historic temples of Prayagraj to welcome millions of devotees.

These efforts are part of the grand preparations to ensure a spiritually enriching experience for visitors during the revered event. With restoration work nearly complete, Prayagraj’s iconic temples are being readied to accommodate the influx of worshippers who will gather to celebrate their faith.

In a recent review meeting held in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat underscored the importance of completing these temple projects on schedule.

This commitment is driven by the aim to blend reverence with comfort, ensuring devotees and tourists have an inspiring visit. The Uttar Pradesh government, in collaboration with multiple departments, is leading this ambitious temple restoration drive.

The responsibility for the temple corridor and restoration projects is shared among three major departments: the Tourism Department, the Smart City initiative, and the Prayagraj Development Authority. Each department is working at a fast pace to complete their designated projects ahead of Mahakumbh, scheduled for January 2025.

Additional Mela Officer for Mahakumbh, Vivek Chaturvedi, emphasised that preparations are progressing rapidly. He stated that both spiritual significance and visitor convenience are being prioritised to offer a memorable experience.

The Tourism Department is managing 15 significant temple restoration projects. Fourteen of these are set for completion by November 15, while the final one is expected to be finished by November 30.

Among these, the Bhardwaj Corridor, Mankameshwar Temple Corridor, Dwadash Madhav Temple, Padila Mahadev Temple, and Alop Shankari Temple are some of the prominent sites that will be ready for devotees. Each of these temples holds great historical and cultural importance, drawing pilgrims from across the nation.

Alongside, the Smart City initiative is overseeing three major projects with an expected completion date of November 15. These projects include the Akshayavat Corridor, Saraswati Koop Corridor, and the Patalpuri Corridor.

Each corridor enhances accessibility and aesthetics, offering pilgrims a seamless journey through Prayagraj’s sacred sites. These initiatives are designed to merge traditional reverence with modern amenities, making the spiritual experience more accessible and fulfilling.

The Prayagraj Development Authority, tasked with finalising two projects, is also on a strict timeline. The Nag Vasuki Temple renovation is set to be completed by November 30, and the Hanuman Temple Corridor project is expected to be ready by December 10. These sites will play an integral role during Mahakumbh, welcoming millions who come to Prayagraj to seek blessings and connect with their faith.

During Mahakumbh, devotees will gather at the sacred Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. This spot is considered one of the most spiritually charged sites in Hinduism, where taking a dip is believed to cleanse one’s sins and bring spiritual blessings.

Visitors to Prayagraj will also have the opportunity to visit these newly restored temples, strengthening their devotion to the Sanatan faith and experiencing the profound history embedded in each site.
