In a major narcotics seizure at Surat International Airport, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Surat Police’s Crime Branch, acting on specific intelligence, arrested an international passenger who was allegedly smuggling high-grade hydroponic weed worth approximately ₹1.41 crore concealed inside boxes of children’s toys.
The passenger, identified as Jafar Mobilewala, a Mumbai resident, arrived on an Air India flight from Bangkok to Surat on Tuesday. Upon thorough checking of his two check-in bags, authorities recovered eight packets containing a total of over 4 kg of hybrid hydroponic marijuana (commonly known as hydro weed).
Surat City Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot briefed the media on the operation on Tuesday and said, “The Surat Crime Branch had received intelligence that some individuals were smuggling drugs through Surat Airport. This module has been under surveillance and investigation for the past one-and-a-half months. Yesterday, a suspect was apprehended on an Air India flight from Bangkok to Surat.
After checking the two bags he was carrying, we recovered over 4 kg of hydro weed (hybrid) marijuana. Eight packets were found concealed inside children’s toys, containing over 4 kg of marijuana valued at ₹1.41 crore. The accused, Jafar Mobilewala, is a resident of Mumbai. He has travelled abroad 28 times in the last three years.”

The Commissioner further revealed that Jafar Mobilewala’s wife, Bushra Begum, was arrested at Bengaluru airport in June 2025 with over 7 kg of marijuana and is presently in judicial custody.
“So far, he has been found involved in the illegal smuggling of gold, narcotics, and e-cigarettes. His wife, Bushra Begum, was also caught with over 7 kg of marijuana at Bangalore Airport in June 2025 and is currently in jail,” the City Commissioner added.
The CISF highlighted the joint effort in an official statement posted on X: “In a display of sharp vigilance and seamless inter-agency coordination, CISF, Customs & Surat City DCB (Detection Crime Branch), in a Joint Operation led by Surat City Police, intercepted an international passenger at Surat Airport, leading to a major narcotics seizure.”
