Surendra Koli, who was acquitted by the Supreme Court in 2025 in the 2006 Nithari serial killings case, allegedly died by suicide in Haridwar’s Bhupatwala area, police said on Friday.
Koli had been staying in Bhupatwala, which falls under the jurisdiction of Haridwar city Kotwali, and had been operating a tea stall there for the past several days.
Haridwar City CO Shishupal Singh Negi said the body was found in the Sapt Rishi area. An Aadhaar card recovered from the spot identified the deceased as Surendra Koli, and the address on the document also matched. A forensic science laboratory team was examining the scene.
Negi said the initial circumstances indicated suicide, although the formal investigation was in progress. He added that the inquest and post-mortem examination would be conducted by a panel after the forensic team completed its preliminary assessment.
Police reached the location after receiving information about the incident and took the body into custody. Further proceedings are underway.
Koli and businessman Moninder Singh Pandher had been accused in the 2006 Nithari serial killings. The case came to light after skeletal remains of children were found in a drain behind Pandher’s house in Noida.
In 2025, the Supreme Court acquitted Koli, who had earlier been convicted in the Nithari killings case, and overturned his conviction.
