Indian Archer Deepika Kumari’s husband Atanu Das, an archer himself, is all giddy and enthusiastic in the commentary box about Kumari’s performance in today’s individual archery pre-quarterfinals event at Les Invalids, Paris.
Ace Indian archer Deepika Kumari entered the pre-quarterfinals in the women's individual Olympic Games event after winning back-to-back matches here on Wednesday.
She first defeated Reena Parnat of Estonia 6-5 in a shoot-off before beating Quinty Roeffen of the Netherlands 6-2.
Deepika will face Michelle Kroppen of Germany in the pre-quarterfinals on Saturday.
Deepika took the first set with two solid 10s and a 9 but the Dutch woman fought back to win the second. Moving forward to the last set, Roeffen scored a 6 giving Kumari a lead forward, and her husband an opportunity to be pleased about her performance.
Das said, “ This last set is also named to Deepika, and feel free to think that the whole match against the Dutch is in hands of her.”
Atanu Das, is an Indian recurve archer who competes in individual men and mixed recurve events. He married former World No.1 Kumari in 2020 thus, becoming the Indian Archery power couple.
Das, positioned at 81 in the world ranking, performed in the Tokyo Olympics 2021, he earned his spot in the Olympics in qualifying for the World Archery Championships in the Netherlands in 2019.
Recently, Atanu Das and Rahul Banerjee were selected for the archery commentary roster.
Allegedly, both of them are found to be jesting with each other in the box, especially when Das exalts female archers other than Kumari.
