Indian Women Archery squad advances to quarterfinals

The trio including, Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur and Deepika Kumari scored positions at 11th, 22, and 23rd position, respectively.

India's women squad propelled to quarterfinals at the individual ranking round today.


Indian women’s Archery squad thrust directly into the quarterfinals after finishing 4th in the individual women's ranking round started at 1 PM in Esplanade des Invalides, France.

 

The trio, Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Deepika Kumari scored positions at 11th, 22nd, and 23rd, respectively. 

 

Bhakat’s debut started with favourable outcomes of her being at the 7th position with a score of 170, and then she climbed 5 places to 12th position with a score of 554 points making it to the list of Top 10 contenders for women's archery at the Olympics.

 

However, later she scored 666 points and finished in 11th position leading India to the fourth position after the Republic of Korea, the People's Republic of China, and Mexico. 

 

Deepika Kumari, in the first set, stood at 57 however, landed at 25th place in the first half of the second set. 

 

After the two sets of the second half of the ranking, Ankita aimed for the 10th position and Deepika and Kaur made significant improvements.

Bhajan Kaur, 18, is also debuting in the Paris Games. Kumar stood at 41st position after the third set with 161 points. She rose to 23rd place after the sixth set. 

 

South Korea’s Lim Sihyeon and Nam Suhyeon stood first and second in the world ranking. 

 

Sihyeon broke the world record by scoring 694 out of 720 points. While Suhyeon scored 688 points. 

 

The archery individual ranking for men and women was designed to define their seedlings so their participation in individual or mixed games can be defined.

 

Each archer will have to shoot 72 arrows. Based on their score out of 720, they will be given rankings, and the top four men’s and women’s teams will be directly placed in the quarter-finals. 

 

The teams who have been placed between 8th and 12th seedlings will compete against each other for the next four positions in the quarter-finals.  And, only the top six pairs will participate in mixed event games. 


India will take part in all five archery events, being in full action for the first time at this Paris Games. 

 

The five events include, men’s recurve singles, women’s recurve singles, mixed team recurve team, men’s recurve team, and women’s recurve team.
