Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to take action following Vinesh Phogat's disqualification from the Paris Olympics for being overweight.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the IOA has registered a strong protest with United World Wrestling (UWW) over the incident.
Phogat, who was found to weigh 50 kg and 100 grams, was disqualified ahead of her final bout.
Mandaviya stated that IOA President PT Usha, currently in Paris, was instructed by the Prime Minister to take necessary action.
“The government provided every facility to her, including personal staff,” Mandaviya said, highlighting the financial support given to Phogat.
The wrestler's disqualification has caused significant outrage in India, with opposition leaders demanding a thorough investigation into the incident.
