The 18th Lok Sabha's first session is scheduled to commence on June 24 for the swearing-in or affirmation of the newly elected members, as stated by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday.
During the initial three days of the session, the recently elected leaders will take oath or affirm their membership of the Lok Sabha and conduct the election for the Speaker of the House position.
The session is set to adjourn on July 3.
On June 27, President Droupadi Murmu will address a combined gathering of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, during which she is expected to outline the new government's plans for the upcoming five years.
"First session of 18th Lok Sabha is being summoned from 24/6/24 to 3/7/24 for oath/affirmation of newly elected members, election of Speaker, President's address and discussion thereon," Rijiju said in a post on X.
He mentioned that the 264th Session of Rajya Sabha is set to start on June 27 and conclude on July 3. Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to present his council of ministers to the Parliament following the President's speech on June 27.
The discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address will likely witness a robust opposition aiming to challenge the NDA government on several issues. The prime minister will address the debate in both Houses of Parliament.
