From political to social issues, security scenario to statehood restoration, National Conference Working Committee passed seven key resolutions even as the thrust of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah remained on government’s commitment to resolving the reservation matter and pursuing the restoration of full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting which was chaired by party president Dr Farooq Abdullah and was attended by NC vice-president and chief minister Omar Abdullah and other senior leaders, NC Working Committee reiterated its long-standing demand for the immediate restoration of full statehood, stating that the party will continue its constitutional and democratic struggle until Jammu and Kashmir regains its status. The committee also condemned the recent attack in Delhi and expressed solidarity with the victims, calling for stringent action against the perpetrators.
The Working Committee unanimously reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. The Committee reiterated that this issue is central to the aspirations and dignity of the people and must be addressed without further delay. The party will continue its principled fight for its full restoration.
Highlighting internal security concerns, the committee sought a high-level inquiry into the Nowgam blast and urged authorities to make the findings public. It also raised alarms over reports of harassment faced by Kashmiri students and traders in different parts of India. The party demanded immediate safety measures to ensure their protection and dignity.
The resolutions further extended full support to Omar Abdullah’s government, acknowledging ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, address public issues, and restore confidence among the people. The Working Committee urged the Chief Minister to continue his leadership and administrative initiatives.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the reservation-related memorandum will be discussed during the next Cabinet meeting.“The elections are over. Now it is time to focus on governance and the real issues. We are committed to our goals and will fulfil our manifesto in letter and spirit,” he said at a press conference.
On the issue of the dual power system in the Union Territory, Omar reiterated that the Parliament has assured the restoration of statehood, adding, “Let them fulfil their promise. We expect the commitment made in Parliament to be honoured at the earliest.”
The NC said the resolutions and the Chief Minister’s statements reflect the party’s commitment to justice, accountability, and the political aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.The Working Committee also unanimously reaffirmed its full support to the government led by Omar Abdullah and urged it to continue fulfilling the aspirations of the people and upholding their dignity.
