AAP MP Swati Maliwal accuses Kejriwal's PA of assault, BJP reacts

In the aftermath of these allegations, neither the Chief Minister's residence nor the ruling Aam Aadmi Party has issued an immediate response. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.

- New Delhi - UPDATED: May 13, 2024, 02:19 PM - 3 mins read

A startling incident occurred at the New Delhi's Civil Lines police station as Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal paid an unexpected visit, alleging misconduct by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's personal assistant Bibhav Kumar.

AAP MP Swati Maliwal accuses Kejriwal's PA of assault, BJP reacts

Swati Maliwal, a prominent figure within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, made a grave accusation on May 13, stating that she was assaulted at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence by his trusted aide Bibhav Kumar.

Reports indicate that Maliwal placed a distress call around 10 am from the CM’s residence, leading to a rapid intervention by the Delhi Police, who promptly arrived at the scene.

The occurrence follows closely after Bibhav Kumar's recent dismissal by the Delhi Vigilance Department from his position as Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s personal secretary, citing an "illegal appointment."

This appointment was associated with a 2007 case involving assault and obstruction of a public servant in the execution of their duties.

According to a report, Maliwal's sudden appearance at the police station has stirred controversy, although no formal complaint has been lodged with the authorities yet.

Condemning this, BJP candidate from New Delhi, Bansuri Swaraj took to social media stating, "We want an answer from Arvind Kejriwal that it is his responsibility that one of your party workers who was also the DCW Chief, if she is not safe in your presence then how will you protect the women of Delhi?"

The episode transpired shortly after Kejriwal's release from Tihar jail on interim bail until June 1.

Maliwal reportedly made distress calls from the Chief Minister's residence to the Delhi police, accusing Bibhav of repeated assaults within the Chief Minister's Office premises.

Promptly responding to the calls, the Civil Lines police intervened by swiftly reaching the spot.

In the aftermath of these allegations, neither the Chief Minister's residence nor the ruling Aam Aadmi Party has issued an immediate response. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Amit Malviya, BJP's IT cell in-charge, pointed out Maliwal's silence during Kejriwal's recent arrest, questioning her absence from the country at that time.

"AAP RS MP and former DCW chief Swati Maliwal alleges that Delhi CM’s PA assaulted her. The call was made from Delhi CM’s House. Remember, Swati Maliwal had maintained radio silence on Kejriwal’s arrest. She was infact not even in India at that time and didn’t return for a long time," said Malviya in a social media post.
