Tamil Nadu’s political landscape has received a new dimension with the unveiling of the Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) flag by actor-turned-politician Vijay.
On Thursday, Vijay inaugurated the flag at his party headquarters in Panaiyur, marking a significant step for his political venture as he prepares for the 2026 Assembly elections.
The TVK flag, designed with a striking color scheme of maroon and yellow, features a central motif of two fighting tuskers flanking the Vaagai flower, also known as Albizia lebbeck.
The word "vaagai," which translates to "victory" in Tamil, symbolises the party’s aspirational goals. The flag’s symbolism underscores Vijay's commitment to a new era in Tamil Nadu politics.
The unveiling event, attended by Vijay's parents—film director S.A. Chandrasekhar and Shobha Chandrasekhar—also saw the launch of the party anthem.
This ceremonial event heralds the formal entry of TVK into the state's political arena.
Although Vijay announced the formation of his political outfit in February, he opted out of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and refrained from endorsing any party.
His strategic decision was aimed at laying a robust foundation for TVK’s future endeavors rather than engaging in the immediate political fray.
In his address, Vijay emphasised the party's commitment to social justice and equality. He and his party workers took a pledge to honor the sacrifices of those who fought for the country's liberation and the countless soldiers who defended the rights of Tamil people.
The pledge also highlighted the party's mission to eradicate caste, religious, gender, and regional disparities, striving for equal opportunities and rights for all.
“There is a historical narrative behind the party flag, which I will elaborate on during the upcoming state-level conference,” Vijay informed his supporters. He portrayed the flag not just as a symbol of his party but as a beacon for the future prosperity of Tamil Nadu’s generations to come.
Vijay’s rallying cry to his party members was clear: hard work and dedication would be the keys to their success.
He urged his followers to focus on the growth and development of Tamil Nadu, stressing that their victory in future elections was assured.
The TVK’s forthcoming state-level conference will detail the party’s principles and action plans.
