Awami Ittehad Party seeks release of jailed MP Engineer Rashid citing health concerns, urges humanitarian approach.

The Jammu and Kashmir Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) held a meeting in Srinagar and demanded the release of jailed MP and party Chief Engineer Rashid on humanitarian grounds. The meeting was attended by the party leadership, including Vice President Adv. GN Shaheen, General Secretary, Prince Parveez Shah, Chief Spokesperson, Inam-Un Nabi, State Secretary, Sheikh Ashiq, and others.

According to a media release, the meeting focused on the deteriorating health of Engineer Rashid and expressed concerns over what it described as growing disregard for humanitarian values within the framework of modern democratic principles.

The attendees said that while the party chief has repeatedly flagged the critical condition of his ailing father on the floor of Parliament, the government has shown no compassionate response, reflecting a drastic erosion of basic humanism.

The members of the working committee noted that democracy is not merely about institutions but also about empathy and humane conduct, particularly in situations involving grave personal distress.

The party expressed gratitude to several religious and political leaders, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Bilal Gani Lone, Sharief Ud Din Shariq, Javed Ahmad Mir, Aga Muntazir, Munner Khan, and Shameem Thakur, for expressing solidarity with the family.

The party also praised the leaders from Jammu and Kashmir for enquiring about the health of Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, terming it a commendable humanitarian gesture.
