Ajit Pawar takes on Opposition, says 'No Alternative' to replace Modi

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar claims there’s no “alternative” for PM Modi in 2024.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar on Monday claimed there’s no “alternative” option at present to replace Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The response came after reporters asked Pawar about the opposition parties considering a challenge to Modi's leadership ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing the media personnel, Pawar stated, “As of now, there is no alternative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the country. Such a decision is taken based on various aspects and not just one or two things. You people do a lot of propaganda (referring to medi), but questions like who will protect the country's interests, in whose hands the country will be safer and stronger, and who raised the country's image on the international stage, these factors matter a lot.”

Pawar, who joined BJP in 2019, further underscored the 2023 assembly polls results of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, adding that the "guesswork" done before the elections doesn't always align with the actual results.

The Minister also responded to queries about opposition parties organizing rallies in the Pune district against the state administration. In reply, Pawar disclosed that a Lok Sabha MP from the NCP is prepared to resign from his position in the Lower House of Parliament.

"When we granted him a ticket in 2019, he was popular due to his portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj in a TV serial (specifically referring to Amol Kolhe) and his eloquence as a speaker. I have chosen an alternative for him in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, and I can confidently say that my candidate will secure victory in the seat," added Pawar.

Besides this, taking a dig at NCP President Sharad Pawar on Sunday, the BJP leader Ajit Pawar emphasized that his decision to take a stand occurred at the age of 60, in contrast to "some people" who did so at 38.
