Akhilesh Yadav, President of the Samajwadi Party (SP), made bold assertions on Sunday during a rally in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, forecasting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would not secure a single seat in the upcoming third phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
Yadav, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, suggested that the ruling party had misread the "direction of the wind" with their ambitious slogan of "400 paar" (crossing 400 seats).
Yadav emphasized the significance of the third phase of polling, slated for May 7, spanning from Sambhal to his familial strongholds in Etawah and Mainpuri.
He asserted that the electorate's sentiment, as witnessed in the initial two phases, did not favor the BJP.
"The wind that blew from the west in the first two phases will alter the political landscape, leading to the BJP's defeat," Yadav proclaimed, insinuating a wave against the incumbent party.
Yadav, buoyed by the historical significance of the region, reminded the gathering of his father, Mulayam Singh Yadav's, electoral victories in Sambhal.
He expressed confidence in securing victories not only in Sambhal but also in neighboring constituencies like Rampur and Moradabad.
The SP leader used the occasion to honor the late Shafiqur Rahman Barq, a revered MP and SP candidate who passed away earlier this year.
He rallied support behind Barq's grandson, Zia ur Rahman Barq, who now carries the party's torch in Sambhal.
Yadav framed the upcoming elections as a battle to safeguard the Constitution, alleging BJP's designs to subvert it.
He promised to champion farmers' rights, vowing to alleviate their financial burdens and ensure Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce.
Continuing his critique of the BJP, Yadav lambasted the government's handling of youth employment, alleging widespread corruption in recruitment processes and broken promises of job creation.
With voting in Uttar Pradesh spread across seven phases, the third phase assumes critical importance with ten seats up for grabs.
Yadav urged voters to cast their ballots decisively.
Voting is scheduled to be held in all seven phases on 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
