After joining the NDA in Tamil Nadu, AMMK Party General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran meets the BJP election in-charge for the state, Piyush Goyal.

TTV Dhinakaran officially brought his party Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam back into the NDA on Wednesday. The move comes as a significant boost for the BJP-led coalition just as the state begins to gear up for the 2026 Assembly elections.

The reunion was solidified in Chennai, where Dhinakaran met with Union Minister and BJP election in-charge Piyush Goyal shortly after Goyal arrived in the city. The meeting effectively buried months of speculation and signaled a coordinated front against the ruling DMK.

For Dhinakaran, the nephew of VK Sasikala, this return is a notable political pivot. Not long ago, he had walked away from the alliance, citing the "arrogance" of AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS), whom he had famously branded a "traitor." By choosing to rejoin now, Dhinakaran is clearly prioritising a "big picture" strategy over personal grievances.

"We should not allow old issues to overshadow the party's interests or the welfare of Tamil Nadu," Dhinakaran told reporters, framing the move as a necessary compromise. He emphasised that the goal is to restore "Amma’s rule" in the state, calling on his cadres to act as a unifying force. "Making compromises for the common good does not weaken us," he added, a clear nod to his supporters who might be surprised by the sudden realignment with his former rivals.

This comes at a time when the battle lines are being drawn for the 2026 elections, and Dhinakaran’s comeback signals the NDA’s strategy of ‘strength in numbers,’ having enough confidence in the tally of their vote bank to take on the Dravidian majors.
