Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in West Bengal and a BJP leader, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the alleged attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh amid its ongoing political crisis.
Adhikari emphasised the necessity of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) during the meeting, which Shah assured is being addressed by the Modi government.
Bangladesh is experiencing significant unrest following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled the country amidst heightened protests.
In the chaos, properties linked to Hasina's Awami League party were vandalised.
Adhikari criticised the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, highlighting the CAA's importance. The CAA, implemented in March, facilitates citizenship for persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who arrived in India by December 31, 2014.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar informed Parliament about the attacks on minorities, their businesses, and temples in Bangladesh, noting that the full extent of the situation remains unclear.
