A tweet by People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti about a mob allegedly attacking Bakarwal nomad families on Wednesday and injuring some of them in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir remains unverified as of now, even as the Udhampur District Commissioner said no such attack took place.
A tweet on by Mufti on X, which had garnered around 33.2k views, said she was “distressed” to hear about bakerwal families being attacked by “hooligans in Udhampur” on Wednesday.
She urged the Jammu and Kashmir police to take action against “such lumpen elements.”
With a hashtag ‘fake news’, the Udhampur DC then tweeted that the district administration strongly refuted the false claims “made in a post regarding alleged incident of Bakerwal families beaten by Goons."
No such incident occurred in district Udhampur, read the DC's tweet. “Urge all to refrain from spreading misinformation."
