The two-day meeting of the Bihar Bharatiya Janata Party committee in Surajkund, Haryana, confirmed that the NDA will contest the 2025 assembly elections in Bihar under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership.
After the meeting, BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal told the media that Nitish Kumar would remain the leader for the upcoming elections. This put an end to the recent speculation about a possible change in leadership.
“The Core committee has unanimously decided that we will fight the elections under Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Jaiswal said, making it clear that there would be no other scenario. “Nitish Kumar is our leader, and there will be no change,” he added.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh and Bihar BJP minister Prem Kumar also supported Jaiswal's statement. "Nitish Kumar is our leader and will remain our leader. There is no confusion,” said Singh.
“He (Nitish Kumar) was, is, and will remain the CM face. All five alliance partners agree on this,” said Prem Kumar.
Earlier, during the national executive meeting of NDA partner HAM-S in New Delhi, the party also expressed support for Kumar as the CM candidate. “NDA will contest the 2025 elections under Nitish Kumar,” said HAM-S leader and Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.
The confusion over Nitish Kumar’s leadership began after a recent interview of Union Minister Amit Shah, in which he was asked if the NDA could contest the Bihar elections without declaring a chief ministerial candidate, similar to their strategy in Maharashtra.
