BJP slams Congress for 'shameful' remark, backs Shah's stand

Pawan Khera, head of the Congress's media and publicity department, posted a brief video clip of Shah’s remarks, calling it an abdication of responsibility.

BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday strongly criticised the Congress party for its remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling them "shameful" and accusing the opposition of indulging in politics at a time when the nation is mourning the victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.

The criticism followed comments from the Congress party that labelled Shah's statement in Ahmedabad after the tragic crash as "insensitive." The Congress argued that at the very least, Shah should have pledged accountability instead of, what they termed, a “shrug and a lecture on fate.” Pawan Khera, head of the Congress's media and publicity department, posted a brief video clip of Shah’s remarks, calling it an abdication of responsibility.

Reacting strongly to these accusations, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, "When the nation is mourning the death of victims in the Air India crash, Congress begins politics." He further alleged that the Congress had shared only a selectively edited 11-second clip from a 7-minute 11-second video of the Home Minister, calling it "fake news" and "shameful" that political motives were taking precedence over national unity and solidarity.

Bhandari clarified that in his full statement, Home Minister Amit Shah expressed deep sympathy, saying, “We stand with the families of those who have lost their loved ones.” He added that Shah had also confirmed an investigation into the incident and assured that the disaster management readiness of the system would be thoroughly assessed.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when an Air India plane crashed shortly after takeoff from the Ahmedabad airport. Air India has confirmed that all 241 people onboard flight AI171 have died.
