AAP national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that voters have expressed clear discontent with both the BJP and the Congress in the recent bypolls, highlighting a growing preference for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in states like Gujarat and Punjab.

The remarks came as AAP’s Gopal Italia secured a notable victory from the Visavadar assembly seat in Gujarat, while BJP’s Rajendra Chavda won the Kadi seat, according to results announced on Monday. Simultaneously, in Punjab, AAP’s Sanjeev Arora was poised for a win from the Ludhiana West constituency, leading by a margin of over 7,000 votes against Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, based on initial trends.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Arvind Kejriwal hailed the results as a sign of public approval for AAP’s governance and a rejection of the two traditional political parties. "The people of Gujarat are now fed up with BJP and they are seeing hope in Aam Aadmi Party," Kejriwal posted in Hindi. He added that the bypoll results in Ludhiana West demonstrate how pleased the people of Punjab are with AAP’s performance in the state, stating that the vote share this time was even higher than in the 2022 elections.

“Many congratulations to all of you on the splendid victory of Aam Aadmi Party in Visavadar seat of Gujarat and Ludhiana West seat of Punjab. Many congratulations and many thanks to the people of Gujarat and Punjab. In both the places, the victory margin has been almost double as compared to the last election,” Kejriwal wrote on X.

The AAP chief also alleged that the BJP and Congress had fought with a common goal—to defeat AAP—but voters in both states had outrightly rejected them. “Both the parties, Congress and BJP, contested the elections together in both the places. Both of them had the same objective — to defeat AAP. But people rejected both these parties in both the places,” he said.

Celebrations broke out at the AAP headquarters in Delhi, where party workers distributed laddoos and cheered the dual victories in Gujarat and Punjab bypolls, seeing them as a sign of growing national support for the party.
