Champai Soren, the veteran leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), made headlines with his dramatic entry and exit as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, marking a turbulent chapter in the state's political landscape.

Hailing from a humble background in Jharkhand’s Saraikela-Kharsawan district, Champai ascended to the chief ministerial role on February 2, stepping in for his predecessor Hemant Soren, who resigned shortly before his arrest in a money laundering case by the ED.

His tenure, though brief, saw significant strides in governance, including the implementation of financial assistance schemes for women and enhanced healthcare coverage for millions across the state.

These initiatives pointed to Champai's commitment to socio-economic welfare during his five-month term.

Nicknamed "Jharkhand's Tiger" for his pivotal role in the statehood movement of the 1990s, Champai has long been a prominent figure in Jharkhand's political arena.

His journey began as an independent MLA in 1991, followed by successful electoral battles under the JMM banner over the years.

Despite electoral ups and downs, Champai’s resilience and connection with grassroots issues have cemented his reputation among voters.

He served as a cabinet minister in the BJP government and later played crucial roles in Hemant Soren’s administrations, focusing on food security and transport.

Personal life-wise, Champai Soren, married early in life, is a father of four sons and three daughters, balancing family responsibilities alongside his political career.
