Champai Soren sworn in as 12th CM of Jharkhand

Six-time MLA of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Champai Soren today administered oath of office and secrecy as the 12th Chief Minister of Jharkhand. Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered oath to Champai Soren and two members of his Cabinet – Congress Legislature Party leader Alamgir Alam and lone MLA of Rashtriya Janata Dal Satyanand Bhokta at Darbar Hall of Raj Bahwan in Ranchi on Friday afternoon.

 

Former CM Hemant Soren’s brother Basant Soren’s name was also doing the rounds to be sworn in as Deputy CM of the State, but it was cancelled at the last moment, said sources.

 

After taking oath of office Chief Minister Champai Soren and his cabinet colleagues went to Bapu Vatika at Morhabadi Ground and paid tributes to the father of the nation. Earlier, before the swearing-in ceremony, Champai Soren went to JMM chief and Rajya Sabha MP Shibu Soren’s residence to take his old friend’s blessings.

 

Popularly known as Jharkhand Tiger, Champai Soren, is a senior leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, who is also the Vice President of JMM. Coming from a farmer’s family Champai Soren is MLA from Seraikela. 

 

 

Champai Soren-12th CM of Jharkhand

 

His father Semal Soren was a farmer. Champai had supported Shibu Soren in the Jharkhand movement. Former CM Hemant Soren has also been seen on public platforms touching the feet of Champai Soren and taking blessings.

 

Born on 15 September 1978 in Dumka, Jharkhand, Champai completed his schooling at a government school in Dumka. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Sido Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka. He got married to Manko Soren at an early age. Manko and Champai have four sons and three daughters.

 

Champai Soren started his political career by becoming an independent MLA in the by-election from his Seraikela seat. After this, he joined Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. In the 2-year, 129-day government of BJP leader Arjun Munda, JMM leader Champai Soren was made a cabinet minister and given important ministries. Champai was a minister from 11 September 2010 to 18 January 2013. After this President's rule was imposed.

 

In July 2013, Champai Soren was made the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies and Transport in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha government led by Hemant Soren. During this period, Hemant Soren in collaboration with JMM-RJD-Congress ran the government for 1 year, five months, and fifteen days.

 

In 2019, Champai Soren was made the Minister of Transport, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and Backward Classes Welfare.
