Vice President of the National Conference (NC), Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday that it would fight the BJP as a combined force together with the Congress.
"Today is the last day to file nominations for the first phase. We have given our manifesto and roadmap. We have decided on a seat-sharing agreement with Congress.
“We will fight against the BJP like a consolidated front so that the possibility of success increases further. We feel bad that in the seat-sharing some people were left out who wanted to contest in these elections," he said, talking to reporters in Srinagar.
As per the formula of a seat-sharing agreement prepared by the two parties, the NC will contest from 51 seats in the coming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and Congress from 32.
Both parties will go in for a "friendly contest" in five seats.
The NC announced its list of 18 candidates, while the Congress announced its first list of nine candidates.
On Monday the NC released its first list of candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir elections. The party subsequently declared its candidate from the Kokernag seat, naming a total of 16 candidates.
The list features candidates from both the Jammu and Kashmir regions.
Polling in Jammu and Kashmir to be held on September 18, 25, and October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 4.
There are 90 assembly constituencies in the Union territory with a total electorate of 88.06 Lakh, according to the election commission.
