In a major organisational reshuffle within student political leadership, the All India Congress Committee appointed Vinod Jakhar as the new National President of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Friday.
The move was announced by the Congress High Command, noting that the appointment comes into force with immediate effect.
The appointment, according to the party leadership, has been approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge himself.
The official appointment letter was issued by AICC General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal. With this appointment, Jakhar will now lead the Congress’s student wing across the country.
The party has also appreciated the contributions and work carried out by the outgoing president, Varun Choudhary, during his tenure. Jakhar is a student leader from Rajasthan.
He has served as NSUI Rajasthan State President (leading protests and student union activities in Jaipur as recently as February 2026).
He was also a former Student Union President at the University of Rajasthan (2018–19) and Rajasthan College (2014–15).
He has been active in organising protests against government policies, including issues related to student welfare and national politics.
