Congress leader Pawan Khera launched a scathing attack on the NDA government in Bihar over the deteriorating law and order situation, following the brutal murder of prominent businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna. Khera alleged that safety under the BJP-led administration has become a “myth,” and accused the ruling alliance of turning a blind eye to escalating violence in the state.
Gopal Khemka was shot dead just outside the main gate of his residence in Patna’s upscale Gandhi Maidan area, a crime that has sent shockwaves across Bihar and sparked strong political reactions. Taking to social media platform X, Khera wrote, “The BJP’s governance model is Goonda Raj wrapped in a velvet glove of PR about ‘development’. All optics, no order.” He further alleged that nearly 65,000 people have been murdered under the NDA’s watch, a figure that highlights the severity of the state’s law and order crisis.
Referring to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Khera said, “The Chief Minister in reality is the Chief Spectator of a daily carnage.” He added that the murder of Khemka in one of Patna’s most secure areas underscores the harsh reality that no level of money, influence, or power can guarantee safety under BJP rule. “The bottom line is: BJP doesn't value human life. It only chases headlines, and even those are fake,” Khera alleged in his post.
Earlier in the day, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also launched a blistering attack on the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government. He described Bihar as the “crime capital” of India and said that crime has become the “new normal” in the state.
In a Hindi post on X, Gandhi said, “The brazen murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna has once again proven—BJP and Nitish Kumar together have turned Bihar into India’s crime capital. Today, Bihar lives in the shadow of loot, gunfire, and murder. The government is utterly ineffective.” He called upon the people of Bihar to rise against this injustice, stating that a government which cannot protect its citizens cannot be trusted with their future.
“Every murder, every loot, every bullet—is a cry for change. Now is the time for a new Bihar—where there is no fear, only progress. This time, the vote is not just to change the government, but to save Bihar,” Rahul Gandhi said, urging voters to bring in a change in the upcoming assembly elections.
Meanwhile, Bihar Police has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murder of Gopal Khemka, who was allegedly shot dead in the southern part of Gandhi Maidan on Friday. The case has intensified the political spotlight on Bihar’s worsening crime situation, just months ahead of the state assembly polls.
