Congress has slammed the FIR against the party’s Guhla MLA Devender Hans for allegedly attempting to hand over a rattle to Guhla SDM Pramesh Singh. The FIR, which has been registered more than a month after the protest, has drawn strong criticism from Congress leaders across the state of Haryana.
The Congress has alleged that the FIR for handing over a rattle (jhunjhuna) to the SDM is unacceptable.
The state Congress leadership has termed the action as “politically motivated” and accused the government of trying to silence opposition voices.
The FIR, according to the leadership, is an intimidation attempt against an elected representative who was raising issues related to alleged irregularities in the BDPO office complex at Cheeka.
Congress MLA GokulSetia, while extending support in a video message, said the intent of the action by the police department puts them into questionable territory.
An FIR was filed against Congress MLA Devender Hans and four others at the Kaithal police station. The FIR, under relevant sections 126(2), 221, 351(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), was registered after obtaining permission from a local court.
Before the FIR was filed, the police had deemed the complaint against the MLA as a non-cognisable offence and had moved to the court to seek a detailed probe.
DSP Guhla, KuldeepBeniwal, said, "With the permission of the court, we conducted an inquiry and found some evidence, after which we registered a case against MLA Guhla Devender Hans. For further verification, related to facts surrounding the incident, we will call the MLA after getting permission from the Haryana Assembly Speaker.”
