Launching a blunt attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday accused him of evading Enforcement Directorate (ED) summonses related to the alleged excise scam and asserted that he is apprehensive about his impending arrest as the "kingpin" of the controversy.
Kejriwal, for the fourth time, failed to appear before the central probe agency, questioning the subject of issuance of summons when he claimed not to be accused in the case.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia claimed that Kejriwal did not appear before the ED as he was "sweating" in winter and "shaking in fear" anticipating his arrest since he knows that he is the kingpin of the excise police scam. Bhatia criticized Kejriwal for not challenging the summonses in court and instead resorting to letter-writing and avoidance.
The BJP mouthpiece justified the ED's summonses and quizzed the AAP leader on his reluctance to confront the investigative process legally. Bhatia warned Kejriwal, claiming that it now seems unavoidable for the "kingpin" of the liquor scam to face imprisonment.
The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reiterated his stance on the ED summons related to the excise policy, labeling them as "illegal and politically motivated." He raised concerns about the timing of these summons, particularly in the months leading up to the Lok Sabha elections.
In a direct message to Kejriwal, Bhatia emphasized that the Delhi CM is not above the law, cautioning that individuals facing accusations or summonses may evade justice temporarily but cannot escape its consequences. The BJP spokesperson asserted that Kejriwal's awareness of the alleged scam's magnitude signals a dark future for the Delhi CM.
The Delhi Chief Minister has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in an ongoing investigation into an excise policy scam. He was initially asked to appear before the central probe agency on November 2, then again on December 21, and for a third time on January 3. However, he failed to appear for the fourth time on January 13 after being summoned again by the central probe agency.
The Delhi CM was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in the ongoing excise policy scam investigation and asked to appear before the central probe agency first on November 02, second on December 21, and for the third time on January 3. Subsequently he was summoned to appear before the central probe agency for the fourth time today.
In earlier instances, Kejriwal had chosen not to comply with successive summonses from the Enforcement Directorate.
The case against the AAP Chief is based on an FIR by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alleging multiple irregularities in the formation and implementation of the excise policy, which was subsequently withdrawn.
