Contending that the gesture is a befitting reply to those who insult Prime Minister Narender Modi, the BJP government in Delhi today said it will announce 75 programmes, schemes and projects of public welfare during the 'Sewa Pakhwara' to mark the birth anniversary of the Prime Minister .
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Tuesday said opposition leaders had "shamed politics" by using abusive words against the Prime Minister's late mother, adding that new projects were a "befitting reply" to such insults. "We want to give a befitting reply to those people who are insulting such a Prime Minister who is working hard day and night for the country. I feel hurt by the statements of the opposition leaders when they comment on his late mother, abusing her. The way the two so-called princes have shamed the politics of the entire country, such abusive words were used against the mother of the Prime Minister," she said.
The BJP has been targeting the opposition over alleged abuses hurled at PM Modi, while the opposition has refuted such claims, arguing that the ruling party at the centre is raising these issues to distract from more important ones. These schemes, programmes and projects from different departments will be announced in the interest of the people of Delhi and will give a "befitting reply" to Opposition leaders who abused and insulted the prime minister and his mother, Gupta said while speaking to media.
She slammed Opposition leaders for keeping mum over the insult to the prime minister and his mother. "What could be more low-grade politics than this that not a single Opposition politician has expressed regret over the incident," she said. The schemes and projects covered under the 'Sewa Pakhwara' will include the inauguration of 150 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, an intensive sanitation drive, the inauguration of five hospitals, as well as other initiatives related to education, housing, transport and civic amenities. The Sewa Pakhwara, marking the 75th birth anniversary of the prime minister, will be observed across the country from September 17 to October 2, she said.
"These initiatives of the Delhi government are a tribute to PM Modi's dedication and selfless service, through which he has devoted every moment of his life to the nation's development and progress," she stated.Prime Minister Modi earlier in the day said he was deeply pained by the hurling of abuses at his mother during a 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' of Congress in Bihar. As his first reaction to the controversy over abuses hurled at his deceased mother during the yatra in Darbhanga recently, he took a dig at opposition parties, stating that using expletives against his mother was nothing for those who insult 'Mother India', and that they should be punished.
