Residences of Trinamool Congress leaders Sujit Bose and Tapas Roy are being searched by a team of Enforcement Directorate (ED) for their alleged involvement in the municipal jobs scam case. ED officials carried out the probe on Friday.
Reportedly, Bose, Bengal Fire Services Minister; Roy, Minister of State for Planning and Statistics ; and a former vice-chancellor of a municipality got a surprise visit by the ED at their premises.
In the wake of the incident, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly and Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Suvendu Adhikari, hailed TMC leaders to be “thieves”. “ED will raid the homes of all the thieves. Bose is responsible for the scam that took place in South Dumdum Municipality recruitment scam…. And Roy is involved in the Baranagar Municipality scam. People and youth of the state want to see them behind the bars,” said Adhikari.
In response to this, TMC State General Secretary Kunal Ghosh said, “ED’s action against TMC is a politically vindictive move. Everything is being done on the orders of the BJP. The latter has no power to face the TMC. Suvendu is a thief. The BJP himself hailed him to be a thief. Pertaining to the allegations, a video was also released by the BJP.”
Last year, in 2023, Calcutta High Court had asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the irregularities found in the recruitment scam case. As of now, both CBI and ED are looking into the case.
Since the court’s directive, both the central investigative agencies have conducted raids at several locations across West Bengal to probe the matter.
