The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has recovered Rs 35 Lakh from the New Delhi residence of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren during a day-long search conducted on Monday.
Well-placed sources said that a huge number of official documents were also recovered by the agency besides a swanky BMW car. The BMW car is said to be worth a Crore and the ED suspects it as a benami property.
Sources added that the amount and documents were recovered from the almirah of the room used by Hemant Soren during his Delhi visit.
Among the official documents recovered are the correspondence of the ED and related files where the agency had asked Jharkhand police to lodge an FIR against revenue officer Bhanu Pratap Prasad.
The ED last raided the premises of Bhanu Pratap in connection with the investigation of the Indian Army Land scam and a large number of documents were recovered from his residence. He is also a key cog in another Ranchi land scam case which is proving the Gordian knot for Jharkhand CM.
Jharkhand CM is facing his imminent arrest in the land scam case and he is repeatedly avoiding summon of the ED for his questioning. However, hours after the raid on Monday, the CM secretariat sent an unsigned e-mail to ED where the CM accused ED of conducting a roving inquiry against him. However, CM stated that he would be available for questioning on January 31.
While the CM is still traceless and mystery surrounds his whereabouts, the recovery of cash and the BMW car will aggravate the problem for CM. He will have to justify the source of such a huge amount and his connection with a BMW car which was parked on his residential premises.
The ED is investigating about the actual owner of the car be it an individual or a company. The ED is investigating whether the car is linked with CM’s Kolkata-based friend Amit Agarwal who is in jail in money laundering and CBI cases.
