National BJP President from Himachal Pradesh, Jagat Prakash Nadda's induction into the Union cabinet as a senior minister has set a wave of jubilation in Himachal Pradesh. His elevation holds great political significance for the small hill state.
Nadda, who is likely to get a prime portfolio, being close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was Union Minister of Health from 2014 to 2019.
He hails from Bilaspur district in Himachal Pradesh and is presently Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat. He had been a minister in HP twice in the BJP government but had left his cabinet berth in the state 13 years back to join the national BJP politics.
In the previous tenure of the Modi government, Anurag Thakur was the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and Youth Affairs and Sports.
Himachal Pradesh this time has given four out of four Lok Sabha seats to the BJP for the third time in a row.
Although the BJP leadership in HP is generally happy over Nadda's induction into the cabinet again, the ones close to five times MP from Hamirpur, Anurag Thakur are disappointed this time as Thakur has been left out this time from the government.
In a statement here, state BJP chief, Dr Rajiv Bindal, Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, and other BJP leaders have hailed Nadda's induction as a Union minister.
Chief Minister of Himachal, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has also congratulated Nadda and has expressed hope that the state would benefit from it.
