Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that the Union Budget 2026-27 lays down a long-term development framework for the next 25 years, combining inclusive growth with economic stability and reaffirming the Modi government’s commitment to building a self-reliant and globally competitive India.

Shah said the Budget announced on Sunday "turbocharges the momentum" to bolster India's position on the global stage as the most attractive investment destination for a wide range of sectors, from traditional to the new-age ones. Playing this down, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on the other hand  said the Union Budget for 2026-27 is “blind to India’s real crises”, and highlighted how the youth are without jobs, manufacturing is falling and farmers are in distress.

In a series of posts on X, Amit Shah, stated, “Through Budget 2026-27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has demonstrated that Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat are not just slogans, but the firm resolve of the government. This budget provides a clear blueprint to empower every sector, class, and citizen, while also offering on-ground support to help them progress at every step. The Viksit Bharat Budget envisions an India leading the world across all domains.”

Shah further highlighted the sectoral impact of the budget, saying, “From manufacturing to infrastructure, healthcare to tourism, rural areas to AI, sports to pilgrimage — the Viksit Bharat Budget strengthens the dreams of youth, women, and farmers in every village, town, and city. This budget lays the roadmap for building a developed India by 2047.”On economic momentum and reforms post-COVID, he added, “The Indian economy has gained strong traction under PM Modi’s visionary leadership.  “ViksitBharatBudget accelerates this momentum further, positioning India as the world’s most attractive investment destination for both traditional and emerging sectors.”

Amit Shah congratulated the Prime Minister and Finance Minister, “I congratulate PM Modi Ji on the remarkable landmark set by the #ViksitBharatBudget. It reaffirms the government’s commitment to growth with fiscal prudence, successfully keeping the fiscal deficit below 4.5%.”In his cryptic reaction to Union budget, Rahul Gandhi said, “Youth without jobs. Falling manufacturing. Investors pulling out capital. Household savings plummeting. Farmers in distress. Looming global shocks – all ignored”.“A Budget that refuses course correction, blind to India’s real crises,” Gandhi said in a post on X.

In her speech, Union Finance Minister Sitharaman announced that the target for capex will be raised to Rs 12.2 lakh crore for FY27 from Rs 11.2 lakh crore earmarked for the current fiscal year. The budget came in the backdrop of global uncertainties, trade frictions and US tariffs and slowdown in exports. This is the third budget of the BJP-led NDA government in its third term in office.
