Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda accused the ruling BJP government of failing to fulfill its election promises and making new announcements to deceive the public. He made the remarks, addressing the 'Meet the Press' program at the Press Club, today, in Chandigarh.
Hooda slammed the BJP for its unfulfilled promises, including implementation of the Swaminathan report, doubling farmers' income, employment for all, and pucca houses for all, which were made in 2014.
"Who will compensate the loss that the public has suffered in 10 years due to the absurd decisions of the government," he questioned.
He then criticised the BJP's anti-people policies, including the closure of 5,000 schools, vacancy of 50,000 posts in the education department, and failure to provide an old age pension of Rs 5,100. He also questioned the BJP's decision to take away the right of 100-yard plots from the poor, SC, and OBC, and instead give them 30-yard plots.
The former Chief Minister highlighted the development works done by the Congress government in Haryana, including the establishment of universities, medical colleges, and industries. He said that the Congress had made Haryana a hub of sports, education, industry, and IT, and had made the state number one in the country in per capita income, investment, and employment generation.
"This government has committed dozens of scams worth thousands of crores in the state. The government itself has accepted many scams and has talked about investigating them. But to date, no scam has been investigated," Hooda said.
"This makes it clear that the character of the BJP is still the same, which is not going to change. That is why this government has decided to continue the additional surcharge of 47 paise per unit of electricity. During the entire tenure, this government did not establish any new power plant and did not generate even a single unit of electricity. Whereas the Congress government had established 4 power plants and 1 nuclear plant in the state," he added.
Hooda challenged the BJP to account for its old promises before making new ones. He said that Congress will make Haryana an unemployment and crime-free state if voted to power, and will fill the vacant posts and curb unemployment.
Congress will take forward the development works started by the previous Congress government, Hooda affirmed.
