Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut stated on Sunday that all members of the opposition INDIA bloc intend to rally behind the ruling ally Telugu Desam Party (TDP) should it nominate a candidate for the Lok Sabha speaker's election.
Speaking to reporters, Raut asserted that the outcome of the Lok Sabha speaker's election holds significant importance. He warned that if the BJP secures the position, it could lead to divisions within government-supporting parties such as the TDP, JD(U), and the political factions led by Chirag Paswan and Jayant Chaudhary.
"We have experienced BJP's betrayal of its allies," Raut claimed.
"I understand that TDP is considering nominating its candidate. In such a scenario, partners of the INDIA alliance will deliberate on the matter and endeavour to ensure unified support for the TDP," he added.
Raut emphasised that as per regulations, the opposition should secure the deputy speaker's position. He criticised the stability of the current NDA government, describing it as unreliable.
When asked about recent comments from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders regarding the BJP following the Lok Sabha polls, Raut responded, "It is positive if the RSS aims to rectify past 'mistakes'."
"We are closely monitoring these unfolding developments," he stated.
During a meeting in the Central Hall of Parliament on June 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was elected as the leader of the NDA Parliamentary Party, the BJP Parliamentary Party, and the BJP leader in the Lok Sabha.
Raut alleged that Modi's leadership election occurred in the NDA parliamentary meeting rather than in the BJP parliamentary party meeting, which did not take place.
"If the issue of leadership had been discussed in the BJP parliamentary party meeting, the outcome might have differed. Hence, Modi's election took place in the NDA parliamentary meeting, and this is a significant matter," he asserted.
