Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge speaking on the ongoing India-Maldives conflict said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a habit of taking things personally. The leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha made the statement on Tuesday in conversation with media persons.
“After Narendra Modi came to power, he is taking everything personally. At the international level, we should keep a good relationship with our neighbors. We should act according to time. We cannot change our neighbors,” said the INC president.
The clash began after the Maldives Deputy Minister, along with fellow cabinet members and government officials, made derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Lakshadweep.
The incident unfolded after PM Modi shared images of his snorkeling experience during his visit to the Union Territory on January 2.
Sharing his pictures of the beach visit the prime minister writes on X, “For those who wish to embrace the adventurer in them, Lakshadweep has to be on.”
Following the heated verbal clash between the two countries, the Maldives administration as a disciplinary action suspended the three ministers Mariyam Shiuna, Malsha, and Hassan Zihan, saying the remarks were not the opinions of the government.
Meanwhile, Maldives MP Ali Azim called on to sack President Mohamed Muizzu over the matter.
