In what indicates rift widening between the alliance partners, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah clearly stated that strengthening the I.N.D.I.A bloc is not his or West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's responsibility. Instead, he said this duty lies with the largest partner in the alliance.

J&K CM Omar Abdullah said, “The responsibility to strengthen the INDIA alliance is neither mine nor Mamata Banerjee’s. This responsibility belongs to the biggest partner of the INDIA Alliance. I have said multiple times that it is unfortunate that we don’t meet. The last meeting was held right after the elections at Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence. There has been no meeting since then.”

His tone and tenor amply reflected  disappointment, as he noted that the bloc hasn’t held a meeting since the one at Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence after the elections. "I have said it multiple times that it is unfortunate that we do not meet..", Omar remarked. On the issue of electoral roll revision, Omar reacted to the Supreme Court’s decision allowing the Election Commission to proceed with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar and Jammu & Kashmir. He said the matter was with the court and now the consequences of the ruling should be observed. He advised those who had moved the court to explore other legal avenues if needed. Emphasizing democratic values, Omar reaffirmed his belief that elections must be held and that the public should have the right to choose their government.

On statehood for J&K, CM Omar Abdullah said, “Unfortunately, being a Union Territory, the security of state is not our responsibility. We want that responsibility to be ours. Our government should be given the responsibility of J&K as soon as possible. We don’t want to be a Union Territory. Making us a Union Territory  was a huge betrayal to us. The central government and the BJP are promise-bond to make J&K a state again. This should not be delayed now. We should be given the statehood as soon as possible and we should have the responsibility of the security of the state.”
