The dates for filing nominations  and other requisite formalities for polls to 4 seats in Rajya Sabha in J&K are drawing near, so is the political activity gaining momentum.  The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday convened a crucial Core Committee meeting in Jammu to finalize its strategy also consider candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Ruling NC is said to be eyeing 3 seats which may shock its alliance partner Congress.

The high-level meeting was chaired by BJP National General Secretary and In-Charge J&K Tarun Chugh, and attended by J&K BJP President Shat Sharma, senior leaders, and other members of the party’s core committee.Sources privy to the meeting said that the BJP has decided to field multiple candidates from Jammu and Kashmir for the Rajya Sabha seats going to polls, even though the arithmetic of votes is far low for more than just one seat.

Among the probable names under consideration are Ravinder Raina, Shat Sharma, Dr. Nirmal Singh, and Choudhary Sham Lal former Minsiter and senior party leader , all of whom have played key roles in the party’s organizational and political activities in the Union Territory.According to insiders, the discussion primarily revolved around seat-sharing possibilities, internal assessments, and outreach plans to secure a clear edge in the elections. The leadership is focusing on ensuring maximum support from MLAs and independent legislators to guarantee victory for the party’s nominees.

Sources revealed that the BJP has launched an extensive political outreach campaign aimed at connecting with regional parties and independent legislators who could play a decisive role in the Rajya Sabha polls. “The party has already opened communication channels with several MLAs, and some of them are reportedly in touch with top BJP leaders,” they added.

Senior leaders said that the final list of Rajya Sabha candidates will be forwarded to the BJP high command in New Delhi for final approval. The party’s central leadership, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President J.P. Nadda, will take the final call on the names to be fielded from Jammu and Kashmir.Tarun Chugh, who chaired the meeting, reportedly emphasized unity and coordination among party cadres to ensure smooth execution of the strategy.

On the other hand, National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, on Saturday said that the party is in a strong position for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, confident of comfortably securing three seats and having a good claim on the fourth.Sadiq said that the final decision on contesting three or all four seats will be taken by the leadership in the next few days.

On the INDIA bloc alliance with Congress, he remarked: “Demands can be made by anyone, but our leadership will sit together and decide. In the past, we made sacrifices for alliance partners, but this time decisions will be taken carefully based on numbers.”

He added that the fourth seat will be crucial, as the voting will indicate how other parties align, while hinting that attempts at horse trading cannot be ruled out.
