The ongoing rift between the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Congress has intensified, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launching a sharp attack on the alliance, calling it a “classic case of double standards and political opportunism.”
Addressing a press conference, BJP state spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo today said the current political situation in Jharkhand reflects the inherent contradictions within the ruling combine.
“On one hand, the Congress is enjoying the fruits of power by holding ministerial positions, and on the other, it is publicly questioning the same government’s law and order, education system, and administrative functioning,” he alleged.
Citing recent remarks by Congress Jharkhand in-charge K. Raju and state president Keshav Mahato Kamlesh, Shah Deo said Congress leaders themselves have admitted that the police system in the state is “inactive,” law and order has “collapsed,” women’s safety is under threat, and the education system is deteriorating, forcing children to shift to private schools.
“If that is the situation, why is Congress still in power? Is saving their chair their only objective?” he asked.
Shah Deo referred to allegations made by Congress in-charge K. Raju against the Chief Minister, claiming that the mining department is under the control of a “mining mafia.”
He said Raju’s remarks also suggested that land acquisition under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, is being obstructed due to mafia pressure, and that senior administrative officials, including Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police, are functioning under such influence.
“Despite such serious allegations against the Chief Minister, Congress is not protesting against these mafias. Instead, action is being taken against their own leaders who raise these issues,” Shah Deo claimed.
Targeting the JMM, the BJP spokesperson further said that some JMM leaders have described Congress as a “poisonous snake,” questioning why the party continues to remain in alliance with it.
“This partnership is driven purely by self-interest and the desire to remain in power,” he alleged.
Shah Deo concluded by urging the people of Jharkhand to “recognise the hypocrisy” of the ruling alliance, asserting that such “opportunistic politics” is harming governance and public interest in the state.
The remarks come amid an escalating war of words between JMM and Congress over electoral strategies and governance issues, even as the two parties continue to share power in Jharkhand.
