The former state Chief Minister and National Conference chief, Farooq Abdullah has reacted to the Supreme Court ruling upholding of scrapping of Article 370 as constitutional by stating, “Let Jammu and Kashmir go to hell”.

The former state Chief Minister and National Conference chief, Farooq Abdullah has reacted to the Supreme Court ruling upholding of scrapping of Article 370 as constitutional by stating, “Let Jammu and Kashmir go to hell”. Without naming anyone he went on to state, “They betrayed people and now they want to win People’s hearts. How can you win that if you do such things to push people further away?”.

Reacting to BJP’s statement of blaming country’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru for the violent situation of Jammu and Kashmir, defending Nehru, Abdullah said the saffron party holds “venom” for him, while Nehru is not the one responsible.

“I do not know why they have so much venom against Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru is not the one responsible for providing special status to JK under Article 370. When this article was brought, Sardar Patel was in the Parliament and Pandit Nehru was in America. When the Cabinet meeting on the imposition of the special constitutional provision took place, Syama Prasad Mukherjee was also party to it. It was this meeting when the decision was taken”, Abdullah added.

In its ruling on Monday, (December 11, 2023), the Supreme Court sets a deadline of September 2024 for the Union government to restore the statehood to Jammu and Kashmir as well as to hold elections.

On this matter, Farooq further noted that he was expecting and hopeful the apex court to give ruling of immediate elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “We want immediate elections to take place in Kashmir but the Supreme Court gave them time till September. Where is the Justice?”.
