A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ruled out an alliance between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress for the 2026 state elections, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut suggested that she should continue discussions with Congress.
On Monday, Banerjee blamed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress for the Opposition's poor performance in the Delhi and Haryana assembly elections. She also made it clear that the TMC would contest the 2026 West Bengal election alone, predicting a two-thirds majority in the 294-seat assembly.
Sanjay Raut acknowledged that the TMC has historically contested Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections independently. However, he pointed out that Congress is a major part of the INDIA bloc and urged Banerjee to maintain dialogue with them.
During a meeting with her party members, Banerjee reportedly criticised AAP for not supporting Congress in Haryana and Congress for not supporting AAP in Delhi, calling it unacceptable. She also stated that Congress has no presence in Bengal.
She warned her party leaders against infighting and factionalism, stating that she would not tolerate any internal disputes within the TMC.

Additionally, Banerjee cautioned her party members to stay alert, claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) might attempt to add foreign nationals to the voter list to influence the election results.
In a surprising remark, Banerjee told her party that she has "no family" and considers the TMC and the people of Bengal as her family.
She also announced plans to restructure the party, from the state level down to booth-level organisations. She instructed TMC MLAs to submit three names for new office-bearers to senior leader Arup Biswas by February 25.
