Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati has called on the Yogi Adityanath government to halt its "bulldozer politics" and focus instead on addressing the problem of wild animals encroaching on human habitats.
On Thursday, Mayawati urged the government to develop a strategy to manage the issue, noting that "in some districts of UP, wild animals are attacking children, elderly and youngsters. The government should take necessary steps to stop this because labourers and poor people are not able to arrange fodder for their animals."
She also criticised both the government and the Samajwadi Party, suggesting they should leave "bulldozer politics" to the Supreme Court, where she believes there is a "full hope of getting justice."
This follows recent remarks from Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan, who questioned the legality of demolishing homes solely based on accusations.
The observation has led to a heated exchange between Chief Minister Adityanath and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
In response, Adityanath defended the government's "bulldozer action" as courageous, while Yadav challenged him to campaign on a "bulldozer" symbol if he was confident in his policies.
Mayawati also condemned a recent incident in which a private ambulance driver in Basti district was accused of attempting to molest and rape a woman.
"This is very shameful," she said, urging the government to "take strict action against the driver," who was alleged to have acted while transporting a patient.
