Camaraderie spirit out of political expediency between the two rivals is over. Hours after the result of RS polls was declared, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti hit out at NC, accusing the party of betraying voters of Budgam constituency.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday addressed a workers’ meeting in Budgam, where she pledged full support to party candidate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi and urged people to unite behind him for what she described as “responsible and people-centric leadership.”
Mufti launched an attack on the National Conference (NC) leadership, alleging that the party’s rule had brought suffering to ordinary people. She accused the NC government led by Omar Abdullah of imprisoning youth and failing to safeguard the interests of the common man.“During Omar Abdullah’s tenure, thousands of our youth were jailed and innocent people endured severe hardships,” Mehbooba said, adding that those who once claimed to represent the people had now distanced themselves from their promises.
Referring to Omar Abdullah’s previous electoral win in Budgam, the PDP chief said the NC leader had secured victory by a wide margin and made grand commitments to the people, including a promise to remain connected with the constituency. “But today, he has betrayed the people of Budgam by abandoning them and neglecting their issues,” she remarked, drawing applause from the gathering.
Mehbooba further said that Budgam, a district of significant political importance, had been ignored by those who merely used it as a stepping stone to power. She appealed to the people to rally under the PDP banner and support Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, whom she described as “a sincere and dedicated representative who truly understands the pain and aspirations of the people.”
Reiterating her party’s stance, Mehbooba said the PDP remains committed to restoring the dignity and democratic rights of the people of Jammu Kashmir, stressing that real change can only be achieved through unity and accountable leadership.Kashmir History Books
