The ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, today, announced Mohinder Bhagat as its candidate for the by-poll to the Jalandhar West assembly segment.

 

An announcement in this regard was made by the Aam Aadmi Party via post on X. 

 

Who is Mohinder Bhagat? 

 

Bhagat is the son of Chunni Lal Bhagat, a former cabinet minister and veteran BJP leader. He ran as a BJP candidate in the 2022 assembly elections but did not win.

 

With secondary school education, Bhagat has contested twice from Jalandhar West on the BJP ticket. From 2007 to 2011, he also served as the chairman of the Medium Industries Development Board of Punjab. Additionally, he was the BJP’s Punjab vice-president from 1998 to 2001 and 2017 to 2020. 

 

In the lead-up to the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election in May last year, he joined the AAP. He became the AAP’s Jalandhar West constituency in-charge after its MLA Angural joined the BJP and resigned from the assembly.

 

The by-election was necessitated following the resignation of Sheetal Angural as an AAP legislator.
