Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly criticised the no-confidence motion, calling it disrespectful to the Chair. He accused the Congress and its allies of disregarding the authority of the Rajya Sabha Chairman in both Houses of Parliament.
"The Congress party and their alliance have continuously disrespected the Chair’s directions. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji, coming from a humble background, has always worked for the welfare of farmers and the people. We deeply respect him and appreciate his guidance in the House," Rijiju said.
He emphasised that the NDA has a clear majority in the Rajya Sabha and expressed full confidence in Dhankhar’s leadership.
Political tensions in Parliament
The no-confidence motion against Jagdeep Dhankhar comes amid escalating tensions in Parliament. The BJP has accused Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi of links to billionaire George Soros and a media organisation funded by his foundation. BJP MPs, led by party president JP Nadda, alleged these connections undermine India and pose security risks.
Meanwhile, the Opposition has accused the BJP of stalling discussions on pressing issues like farmers' protests over Minimum Support Price (MSP) and communal violence in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district.
The motion and ongoing clashes highlight the growing divide between the ruling BJP and the Opposition, raising concerns about the functioning of Parliament.
