Refuting rumours of her consumption of beef as "shameful and baseless," Kangana Ranaut, the actor-turned-politician contesting the Lok Sabha election on a BJP ticket from the Mandi constituency, asserted she is a "proud Hindu."
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ranaut said, “I don’t consume beef or any other kind of red meat. It is shameful that completely baseless rumours are being spread about me. I have been advocating and promoting a yogic and Ayurvedic way of life for decades. Now, such tactics to tarnish my image will not work. My people know me, and they know that I am a proud Hindu, and nothing can ever mislead them.”
The statement surfaced two days after Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar's accusation that Ranaut had previously admitted to consuming beef. Wadettiwar, addressing a rally, alleged that Ranaut had expressed her preference for and consumption of beef on a certain occasion. Despite this claim, the BJP had nominated her as a candidate for the Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, people on the internet were quick to dig out Kangana's old interviews and posts made on X, where she advocated for consuming beef as a "choice" and how it is not restricted to any religion. An old interview claimed that Kangana admitted to enjoying steak because it was "forbidden."
ABP, in an article dated 20 September 2022, published a story citing an old video in which Kangana mentioned that when she embarked on her journey to achieve her goals, her mother advised her not to eat beef as she was leaving home. Since then, the desire to eat beef took root in her mind. "In the viral video, Kangana also revealed that she did consume beef, although she couldn't muster the courage to taste snake and octopus," said the article.
