Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar and supremo of the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), has been elected unopposed as the party’s national President.
“After the time for withdrawal of nomination, since the nomination of Shri Nitish Kumar is remaining with the Returning Officer, the Returning Officer, Aneel Prasad Hegde, will be issuing the certificate of election of Shri Nitish Kumar today at 2:30 pm,” the statement said.
According to an official statement, a formal press conference will be held at the party office in New Delhi to announce the decision. Senior party leaders, including Working President and Rajya Sabha Leader of the Parliamentary Party Sanjay Kumar Jha and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, are expected to be present at the event.
Sanjay Kumar Jha confirmed that the development follows a collective request from party members for Kumar to continue leading the organisation. On March 19, he said, “We have filed a nomination on behalf of Nitish Kumar for him to become the National President. The last day of nomination is March 22.”
Meanwhile, senior JD(U) leader Ram Nath Thakur described Kumar as a guiding force for the party.
“Nitish Kumar is our guardian and a senior leader. Workers wished for his nomination. He will contribute to the party and keep an eye on the progress of Bihar,” he said.
Kumar, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, is currently in New Delhi. His unopposed election underscores his continued influence within the Janata Dal (United) as it prepares for upcoming political challenges.
