The Central Election Committee of Bharatiya Janata Party today nominated General Secretary of State BJP unit Dr Pradeep Verma for the upcoming Rajya Poll scheduled on March 21 in the State.
A letter issued by BJP National General Secretary cum headquarter in-charge Arun Singh stated that the party Central Election Commission has approved Dr Pradeep Verma’s name for the Rajya Sabha elections 2024 in Jharkhand.
Dr Pradeep Verma is presently head and Admin of Sarla Birla Public School and CEO of Sarla Birla University in Ranchi Jharkhand.
At the same time the JMM announced Sarfaraj Ahmed’s name for Rajya Sabha elections. Ahmed was MLA from Gandey Assembly Constituency, who resigned from membership of House on December 31. The JMM believed at that time that Kalpana Soren would contest from this seat.
In the seat distribution in the Congress-Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-RJD alliance in the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, the Gandey Assembly seat went to JMM. Sarfaraz Ahmed was in Congress, but later, he joined JMM, which made him its candidate from Gandey.
Sarfaraz Ahmed has been in politics for the last 50 years and has served in various positions in the Congress.
With the announcements of two names it has almost become final that these two candidates will win the elections. This is because in the 81 member Jharkhand Assembly the Congress-JMM-RJD alliance has 47 MLAs, while the NDA has support of at least 31 legislators.
