Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's wife and Veteran Congress leader Preneet Kaur is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, March 14 amid long anticipation of the same.
In September 2022, Amarinder, along with his children, Raninder Singh and Jai Inder Kaur, joined the saffron party.
Speculations are that Kaur will be fielded from the same Lok Sabha seat - Patiala, which she held since 1999 (13th Lok Sabha election), despite earlier considerations favoring Jai Inder Kaur.
Moreover, talks are in the town that BJP is in discussion with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for a pre-election Lok Sabha agreement in the state, and the saffron party will demand Patiala and Ludhiana in addition to Gurdaspur, Amritsar, and Hoshiarpur. These constituencies were traditionally contested by the BJP when in alliance with the SAD.
She remained Minister of State for External Affairs from 2009 to 2012 in the Congress-led UPA and was MLA between 2014 and 2017.
