Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, at a press conference on Thursday, launched a severe attack on the Election Commission (EC), alleging that the poll watchdog colluded with the BJP to rig the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Rahul Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, claimed that 'fake people' were being added to voter lists and presented what he called '100% proof' of electoral malpractice.

Gandhi used an internal Congress party investigation into the voter lists of the Mahadevapura assembly segment, which is a part of the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka, to bolster his claims.

He asserted that he had discovered widespread vote theft in this segment, or 'bhayankar chori.' Gandhi claimed that there was a 'vote chori' of more than 1 lakh votes out of the 6.5 lakh cast in the Mahadevapura assembly segment. "Over one lakh duplicate voters, invalid addresses, bulk voters" were discovered in the constituency, he said, according to Congress research.

"An internal research by Congress found over one lakh duplicate voters, invalid addresses, bulk voters in Mahadevapura constituency in Karnataka," he said.

Bangalore Central had a tight race in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. While Congress candidate Mansoor Ali Khan was ahead for most of the vote counting, the final results showed BJP's PC Mohan winning by a small margin of 32,707 votes. The Raebareli MP also questioned the Election Commission for not providing voter lists in electronic format, saying that doing so would make their 'fraud' visible in just 30 seconds.

"This is a challenge here. This is seven feet of paper. If I want to find out if you have voted twice or if your name occurs twice in the voter list, I have to take your picture, and then I have to compare it to every single bit of paper. It is a very tedious process," he said.

Additionally, he claimed that the poll watchdog was purposefully supplying "non-machine-readable papers" to keep the parties from closely examining the voter data.

"This task took us six months (Mahadevapura claim). If the Election Commission gave us electronic data, it would take us 30 seconds. Why are we being given data like this? So, that it is not analysed...These papers do not allow for optical character recognition," Gandhi further said.

The accusations are made in advance of a large-scale Congress protest march against the Karnataka ECI over alleged voter fraud. Gandhi will lead the march.
