Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia announced on Saturday that a party delegation will meet Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. They plan to present video evidence, including CCTV footage from the Sri Darbar Sahib complex, to show that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government allegedly enabled an attack on SAD president Sukhbir Badal.
Allegations against police officials
Majithia accused Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Superintendent of Police Harpal Singh Randhawa, and other officials of facilitating Babbar Khalsa International operative Narayan Singh Chaura.
He claimed that Chaura approached Sukhbir Badal and attempted to assassinate him at close range.
The SAD will demand legal action against these officials, asserting that their involvement endangered lives and peace in the state.
AAP government under fire
Majithia criticised the AAP government, alleging it is orchestrating dangerous events that threaten Punjab's communal harmony. He blamed AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal for directing these activities and accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of executing these plans.
“We believe these actions are part of a deliberate strategy to destabilize the state,” Majithia said.
CCTV footage released
Majithia shared CCTV footage from the Sri Darbar Sahib complex as evidence. He claimed the footage shows SP Randhawa meeting and shaking hands with Narayan Chaura, the alleged attacker, and whispering in his ear.
Another video, according to Majithia, shows efforts to isolate Sukhbir Badal while he was performing ‘sewa’ (service) in the ‘langar’ (community kitchen). Youth leader Parambans Romana and others were pushed back, leaving Sukhbir vulnerable.
The SAD leader emphasised that these incidents are not just political but pose a serious threat to peace in Punjab. The party seeks immediate intervention from the Governor and accountability from the AAP government for these alleged actions.
