Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday sharply criticised the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government over the state budget for the financial year 2025-26, calling it “hollow” and lacking vision for Bihar’s future.

Yadav accused the government of failing to address crucial issues such as employment, education, industry development, and migration. He also slammed the NDA for not fulfilling the demand to provide Rs 2,500 per month to women under the ‘Mai Bahin Maan Yojana’.

'Budget repeats old promises, offers no real solutions'

Dismissing the budget as a repetition of old announcements, Yadav said it would have no impact on the people of Bihar.

"There is nothing new in this budget. We had demanded that women be given Rs 2,500 per month, but that demand remains unfulfilled. The budget does not address issues like industrial growth, migration, or education. It is hollow and lacks any real solutions for Bihar’s problems," he said.

The RJD leader also alleged that the NDA government is more focused on protecting its power than addressing the needs of the people. "This is an inflated budget with no real revenue. The NDA only cares about staying in power, while we are concerned about Bihar’s future," he added.

Bihar govt unveils ₹3.17 lakh crore budget

On Monday, the Bihar government presented a Rs 3.17 lakh crore budget for FY 2025-26, marking a 13.6% increase from the Rs 2.79 lakh crore allocation in the previous year.

The budget, presented by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary, is significant as it is the last budget of the ruling NDA government before the state elections later this year. The increased allocation aims to boost infrastructure, social welfare, human development, and administrative sectors.

Opposition criticises budget, calls it 'anti-poor'

Other RJD leaders joined Yadav in criticising the budget. RJD leader Kumar Sarvjeet called it "anti-poor," arguing that if the budget truly benefited the people, millions would not be forced to migrate out of Bihar for better opportunities.

Opposition leaders also staged protests outside the Bihar Assembly, accusing the government of failing to deliver on its promises.

With elections approaching, the budget debate is set to intensify, as the NDA defends its policies while the opposition continues to push for greater economic reforms and social welfare measures.
